Praise is due to Allah (SWT) the Lord of the Worlds and Peace
and Salutations be upon on our Beloved Prophet Nabi Muhammad (Peace
Be upon Him)
Allhamdullillah, our Principal Moulana Hassan Murchie was invited
by the Islamic Fiqh Academy of India to deliver a paper as an
expert on the transcription of the Holy Qur’an into Arabic
Braille that was held in Oichra, Kerala, India between the 1st
and 3rd of March 2015.
Previously, there was much debate on this issue as some Ulama
felt that it is forbidden or “Haram” to translate
the Holy Qur’an into Braille as it will be against the standards
of the ‘Rasm Ul Khat Al-Uthmani. This is the official standard
established by the third Khaliph Hazrat Uthmaan (RA) in writing
the Holy Qur’an. Any person who writes the Holy Qur’an
in Arabic Braille has to follow the rules of the Qur’an
script set by this standard. Any deviation will be considered
wrong.
At the seminar views and counter views were exchanged in establishing
that Braille is not a script “per se”, but a “Code”
that is used by the Blind to read and write.
At the end of the seminar a pronouncement or “Fatwa”
was given to its permissibility and the Blind were encouraged
to read the Holy Qur’an in Braille.
It was also established that “Wudhu” is necessary
even when touching the Braille Qur’an and the Braille version
of the Holy Qur’an is equal to the sighted version.
The seminar was headed by Moulana Khaled Saifullah Rahmani and
Moulana Rabe Hasani Nadwi, the head of the Muslim Personal Law
board of India also attended.

reward you and your family in this world and in the Hereafter,
