Travelling teachers
We visited the Eldoraigne Muslim Trust to meet with Layla Sutton, a young girl who is learning at this Maktab.
Although she is the only Blind girl among all her sighted peers, her Principal, Moulana Qasim Desai and Muallima (Teacher) confirm that she is very bright and orally recites all her Duaas, Kalimahs, and Surahs excellently.
Our purpose in meeting with the teachers was to introduce Arabic Braille, so that Layla be able to read the Quraan., Alhamdulil-Allah, like a duck taking to water, Layla finished 3 pages of Sabaq (lessons) on her first day as she knew the English Braille code. Since Braille is based on phonics, it is very easy to interchange languages.
There is an urgent need for a travelling teacher in the Gauteng region who will be able to teach and administer to the other blind students living in the Midrand area.
