ICEB Conference
Our Braille service manager, Shiraaz Asmall and our principal Moulana Hassan Murchie, attended the ICEB (International Council on English Braille) conference that was held in Samrand as observers between the 6th and 10th of May 2012.
The purpose of this meeting was to follow up on the latest developments on the “Unified English Braille code”. South Africa and Nigeria are two of the leading countries representing Africa, together with the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand in steering this project.
There is a great need for a similar type of initiative for a “Unified Arabic Braille code” as this directly impacts towards the writing of the Holy Qur’an. We are in contact with a few Arabic speaking countries in this regard and Insha-Allah, we hope to host this initiative in South Africa.
The road seems long and we make Duaa to Allah for His assistance and the fulfilment of this important demand.
